GRANTS

Regardless the type of investment project, EUNITE always searches for granting possibilities. This focus on subsidies is motivated by two elements, namely i) it accelerates investments and ii) simply many grants are available.

LARGE VARIETY IN GRANTS

A large geographical variety of grants is applicable, such as Dutch grants, EU subsidies and local public funding. In addition different types of grants are available for different investment purposes. Examples are incentives for greenfield investments, innovations, research, feasibility studies and for demonstration projects. In some occasions subsidies are also available for investment projects that match priority themes. For instance grants for food security, water management, export growth, poverty reduction, job creation, environmental improvement etc. Finally interesting grants for long lasting public private partnerships (PPP) are also available.

CASH GRANTS: UP TO 100% OF INVESTMENT

The most favourite grants are the ones that consist of cash injections up front. Such cash injections mostly consist of funding a specific percentage of capital investments.GRANTS

Often it also consist of a percentage of working capital cost needed to realise the investment. Examples of such are labour cost for managing the investment project, R&D staff, transferring knowledge etc. In addition it also consists of cost of consumables. Especially in R&D investment projects, such cost can become quite significant.

The precise percentage of grants differs per grant type. For Dutch grants the percentage is mostly between 30% and 50% of the total investment (capital investments, labour cost and cost of consumables). For EU grants the percentages normally are higher and can event amount up to 100%. In absolute figures: grants based on cash injections can amount up to several € millions.

FISCAL GRANTS: UP TO 70% OF INVESTMENT

A large amount grants is based on fiscal benefits, which often turn out to be at least as interesting as cash injections up front. Fiscal benefits can be acquired at three public levels, namely centrally, regionally and / or locally. Such fiscal benefits mostly consist of CIT reduction, decreased social security payments, lowering of local taxes, reduced cost of land, partial wage payments etc. In most occasions such fiscal benefits have a duration period of several years. The size of the grant differs strongly. For instance in Poland the grant size can amount up to 70% of the total investment. In absolute figures: grants based on fiscal benefits – similar as grants based on cash injections – can also amount up to several € millions.

COMBINING GRANTS: OFTEN POSSIBLE

Although not easy, in practice it often is possible and allowed to combine grants. For instance by acquiring cash injections first and acquire complementary fiscal benefits afterwards. Combinations of grants are possible within a country, however it is also possible to benefit from grants from two countries. For example the Dutch government could provide the cash injection and the local country could provide additional fiscal benefits. There are various ways in achieving such combinations of grants. Its successful roadmap differs for each investment project.
